Action: At the World Health Organisation’s 75th World Health Assembly, the Lung Cancer Collaboration launched a new report, ‘Urgent, coordinated global action on lung cancer.’ The report calls for governments to target action and investment in lung cancer to drive earlier diagnosis and better treatment and care to improve the chances of lung cancer survival.

Output: The report outlines recommendations across three core areas:

• Early detection and screening
• Quality of treatment and care
• Finance and Infrastructure

Without urgent global action on lung cancer, reducing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by a third and reducing cancer deaths by 30 per cent by 2030, will not be achieved.

Action: At the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Development Impact Summit, the Lung Ambition Alliance and World Economic Forum launched the Lung Cancer Collaboration, a global multi-stakeholder alliance of over 30 organisations united in the ambition of doubling the 5-year survival rate in lung cancer by 2030, in an effort to meet the United Nations’ SDG Target 3.4.

Output: Over a six-month period, the multi-stakeholder alliance convened regularly to align on actionable recommendations for countries to prioritise lung cancer care and screening programmes to shape lung cancer care.

Action: At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lung Ambition Alliance and World Economic Forum convened a task force of healthcare providers and patient, policy, and industry representatives to assess the impact of COVID-19 on lung cancer care in Europe.

Output: ‘Learning Lessons from across Europe, Prioritizing Lung Cancer after COVID-19,’ a report defining actionable insights for key European, national and regional actors, was published to share key lessons and recommendations on addressing the short-term impact to lung cancer care and needs for long-term resiliency across healthcare systems.
